sustainable steps
our approach
let’s have an honest chat about what sustainability means to us.
at hanni, we think about sustainability in our everyday decisions. it’s not easy to be 100% sustainable, and “the right thing” to do isn’t always immediately apparent. but we embrace the challenge by taking small, practical steps, and learning more about how we can be better to make our products, and our company, more sustainable.
each year, we set specific goals, and work all year towards that goal, whether it’s reducing carbon emissions, finding more sustainable packaging material, or reducing plastic waste. we're proud of what we've done so far, but we know there's a lot more to do. sustainability is an ongoing journey, not a destination
— so please join us on this adventure!
packaging
packaging should do its job without creating excess waste. we've started with the fundamentals:
- all of hanni’s paper boxes are printed with vegetable-based or soy inks on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) papers
- we use recycled paper whenever possible, and all folding cartons are curbside recyclable
- the insert that cradles your weighted razor is made of biodegradable sugarcane pulp, which means it can live a second life as a nursery pot or simply tossed in your compost bin
- the shave pillow stick is made from 100% PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic
- for product packaging, we always aim for the most sustainable material whenever possible, with plastic as the last resort. if we do have to use plastic, we always opt for PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic. the packaging materials we use range from aluminum, glass, to PCR plastic, with the goal of moving towards aluminum – an infinitely recyclable material with the highest recycled rate in the U.S., whenever possible
- the shipping boxes and padded mailers that bring hanni to your doorstep are made of recycled paper, which can easily be recycled with your other household items
- p.s. our splash salve jar is 100% aluminum — an infinitely recyclable material that is also easily recyclable for you (just rinse off and toss with your soda cans!) of course, with aluminum, dents are possible. don't worry – it doesn't impact the performance of the product. we feel that this minor imperfection is a small price to pay to be kinder to our planet.
formulation
hanni delivers the softest, smoothest skin imaginable — with products that 'wow' you as well as care for your skin and the planet. every formula we develop is good for skin health, with no harmful ingredients.
- NO animal testing (ever!) — all products are cruelty-free
- and yes, all formulas are vegan and gluten-free, too :)
- clean ingredients, for products that are clinically tested, allergy-tested and and non-irritating
- climate commitment and environmental giving
environmental giving
hanni is a proud member of the 1% For the Planet, and we donate 1% of annual sales to environmental non profits. We are also a certified Zero Plastic Waste brand!
- in 2021, we partnered with b-e-f to neutralize our carbon footprint, and offset 60% of our unavoidable operating emissions (employee electric usage, freight shipping and customer shipping) in 2021.
- in 2022, we partnered with the Plastic Credit Exchange, and our giving diverted 106,000+ lbs of plastic away from landfills.
- climate commitment and environmental giving
at hanni, sustainability is a journey, not a destination. there is a lot more to do be done, and we are just getting started.
reuse and recycle
like many of you, we're working to get rid of the single use plastics in our lives. 2 billion plastic razor cartridges end up in U.S. landfills every year. the hanni weighted razor is an eco-friendly alternative that doesn't compromise on performance or design. the hanni weighted razor is metal, re-usable, and 100% plastic-free.
where possible, we try to use materials that are endlessly recyclable. steel and tin are two such materials. once used, hanni's stainless steel blades can be recycled along with the tin blade bin at any recycling center.
please be aware: razor blades can't be recycled with your regular household items like bottles and cans. we recommend using a resource like earth 911 to locate the recycling center in your area.
